University College London department Queens Square Institute of Neurology (QSBB) holds a unique archive of brains and tissue donated by individuals with neurodegenerative disease and neurologically normal controls.
Brief
Develop a laboratory database to catalogue donations and manage the research on donations.
Solution
Hero created a highly secure web application that holds details of each brain or tissue donation. Laboratory staff are able to record detailed clinical information about each individual donation, search for existing donations using multiple criteria and are able to log when a donation has been used. The system also allows for diagnosis, histology and macro information for a particular donation to be recorded and stored, and then exported as a formatted report for further distribution. The system has been in place for over 10 years now and is regularly updated and added to, and it is used by other laboratories around the world.
